1) For folks who, for various reasons, are not particularly interested or able to fully participate in the normal introductory sessions, loading, firing, and unloading processes, we offer a "drop off/pickup" option. Potters can simply drop off their work and come to get it after unloading. I do need 1 helper during loading, during firing, and during unloading. The kiln we will use is a 34 cubic foot Manabigama II (tunnel kiln) and each participant will have 1/8 of the kiln. This is usually about 20-25 pots with an average height of 8 1/2 inches. Tumble stacking is fine and will extend your "bang for the buck." All pots must be made from strong cone 10+ clay and need to be delivered and unpacked fully wadded and ready for loading. Elmer's Carpenter Glue will keep your wads securely in place during transport. The cost for this option is $190/person.
Occasionally, small amounts of space are available should we need some extra pots to prepare a full load. Call 301-646-3481 for pricing and vacancies.
2) For people who want to learn how to fire a wood kiln and be involved in every stage of the process, a full workshop with me is the best option. This includes an Introductory Session, hands on help with glazing and wadding, tips for various decorative techniques, and full immersion in the firing process. Space and size requirements are as in Option #1 above. The cost is $225/person. Every stage of the process, from loading to firing, unloading and shelf prep will be included. Extended firings and reduction cooling are available, if there is sufficient interest, at an increased cost based on the needs of the group.
3) We are in the process of lining up nationally, or internationally known potters for workshops in 2012.
